FAQ: The Lantern: A New England Folk Oracle set

What is BackerKit and when will it be used?

BackerKit is a separate software from Kickstarter, that we use for pledge management. It allows us to keep track of what everyone ordered, to buy shipping labels at a discounted rate and without the extra charges that Kickstarter’s fees would add. We know it adds a layer of information, but in the end it makes everything run more smoothly, and more economically, for our Backers.

What is a "survey"?

Later on we will send a BackerKit Survey, which is how you provide us your address and shipping payments. We can only ship rewards if we know where you live, and also if the shipping is paid for in full. In other words, it’s mandatory to receive your reward.

What is "split fulfillment"?

The term Fulfillment refers to the process of shipping out everyone’s rewards correctly, and on time. In other words, “fulfilling” your request. We are going to have to ship rewards in two waves, because the Lantern: 1 BY LAND will be complete soon, and the Lantern: 2 BY SEA is still in progress. Those who order both will receive two shipments, several weeks apart. Those who order only the LAND oracle deck will get their orders far sooner than those who order only the SEA oracle deck.

Why is shipping charged separately?

We separate the shipment payments from all of our campaigns in order to save our supporters money in shipping costs. If it’s not within the Kickstarter campaign, it isn’t subjected to Kickstarter’s fees. Also, we can base your shipping charges on your actual location, instead of charging one blanket rate to all. We know it’s an extra step, but we do it for good reasons.

I changed my mind, can I have a refund?

Unfortunately we must gently remind folks that this was a fundraising campaign, and as indie producers, we can only create these products through crowdfunding. We are not a big company with deep pockets for production; we’re artists. This is not an e-commerce store, it’s a fundraising campaign. We are very grateful for your contribution. Please refer to Kickstarter’s agreement that comes into effect when you press that big “Rewards Aren’t Guaranteed” button.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.

Terms and Conditions

**Terms and Conditions**

NO REFUNDS: Kickstarter is not a store, and pledges are not e-commerce purchases. There are no refunds or replacements on rewards. Kickstarter emphasizes that backing a project is about investing in a creator's vision, not buying a product that already exists. For more information on this concept please visit: https://help.kickstarter.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005028834-What-is-a-creator-obligated-to-do-once-their-project-is-funded

This is why Kickstarter's confirmation button says in large letters: "REWARDS ARE NOT GUARANTEED." Kickstarter encourages backers to research projects, assess the creator's track record, and understand the risks involved before pledging.

When you back a project on Kickstarter, you're supporting a creative endeavor, not pre-ordering a finished product. The "rewards aren't guaranteed" message is a disclaimer that acknowledges the inherent risks and uncertainties involved in bringing a new project to life. This means that while creators aim to fulfill their promises, unexpected challenges can arise, potentially leading to delays or even changes to the original vision.

DAMAGED OR LOST GOODS IN SHIPPING: Backer acknowledges that the creator of this project, Laura Tempest Zakroff, and their publisher, La Panthere Studio LLC, would never intentionally send damaged rewards to a Backer, nor would they intentionally withhold rewards from anyone. However, due to the realities of shipping, sometimes rewards arrive damaged or beaten up in some way. This does not make the Backer eligible for a refund or replacement; however, if the Backer is reasonable in their request and is willing to share shipping costs for replacement, the project creator is willing to make exceptions in extreme cases. If your reward(s) arrives in an absolutely destroyed state, please reach out via email to Kenneth at [email protected] and we will work together to resolve the issue.
